BUILDING FACTOIDS & VISION

The City Garage was originally built in 1935.  It has nearly 9,000 square feet of usable space. It used to be filled with salt trucks and other equipment needed to serve the city of Port Clinton. Mayor Mike Snider and Olen Martin suggested that the Arts Council lead the effort to transform the garage into a cultural arts center for all to use in Ottawa County.  The building is located at 317 W Perry Street in downtown PC.

The building could feature: 

• art studios for working artists,

• concert/theatre area - inside and out,

• a makers area,

• a working chef’s kitchen,

• classrooms,

• gift shop,

• office space,

• building/artist storage,

• gallery,

• sculpture garden, and

• possibly a museum. 

GPCAAC is looking to host presentations on art, dance, photography, music history as well as be able to host art festivals, fundraising events, and live performances.

Committee member Norm Pfeiffer created and managed a Survey Monkey survey.  More than 370 people responded.  When asked What brings you to Port Clinton, “arts & crafts fairs” received 41% of the votes, trailing only “restaurants” that received 43% of the votes.  Survey participants said arts facilities they visit include museums, galleries, symphonies, dance, festivals, sculpture gardens, and art walks.  Fifty percent said they would volunteer and 60% said they would make a financial contribution.
